Known internally as the Series II and initially badged as such, this model took the familiar Disco silhouette and beefed it up under the skin. It added length and width for more cabin space, kept the iconic stepped roof and alpine windows, but introduced a new five-cylinder Td5 diesel and Rover-derived 4.0 L V8 (4.6 L V8 in some export markets) for better performance. It also debuted clever tech like ACE anti-roll stabilisation, electronic traction control, and Hill Descent Control — while still feeling unmistakably Discovery.
